Who we are
Terrain is a Christian undergraduate journal at the University of Texas at Austin. We are a community of writers, artists, and academics seeking to engage in virtuous and meaningful discourse across UT's diverse landscape of thought.
Our Values
Reasonable Belief
The concept of "reasonable faith" holds that faith in God and Christian doctrine are not just matters of opinion or feeling but can also be backed up by reasoned deduction, facts, and sensible arguments. It bridges the gap between belief and reason by encouraging individuals to view faith as something that can be rationally defended.
The Mystery of Faith
The deep and frequently inexplicable facets of Christian belief—especially in regard to God's character, Christ's mission, and the redemption He provides to his believers. It highlights that certain religious truths are incomprehensible to humans and should be embraced with humility and faith, acknowledging that God's ways are beyond our complete grasp.
Christlike Discourse
Speaking and interacting with others in a way that represents the love, humility, compassion, and wisdom that Jesus embodied is known as "Christlike discourse." It entails lovingly telling the truth while avoiding harshness, judgment, or division in order to foster understanding, reconciliation, and grace. Think, is my message true, kind, and necessary?
Christian Community
A Christian community is a group of believers who come together in worship, faith, and service to help one another through life's obstacles and spiritual development. It represents the biblical concept of the "body of Christ," in which people are bound together by their faith, share in one another's happiness and sorrows, and cooperate to carry out God's will in the world.
Dedication and Benediction
We’d like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Matson Duncan and Bill Walker at Hill House Christian Study Center, for their spiritual, emotional, logistical, and financial support of this journal. We truly couldn't have done it without you. Over them and over ourselves we pray the following:
O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven: Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
